Hurlburt Field AFB Information
Home of the Air Commandos since 1961, Hurlburt Field today accommodates the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW), Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), an Air Force major command, and a number of associate units.
The installation is nearly 6,700 acres and employs nearly 2,100 military personnel.
Hurlburt Field is located on the Eglin Air Force Base Reservation which is also the home for Duke Field and the new home for the Army 7th Special Forces Group (7th SFG). The Army will be utilizing the Duke Field Air Strip for their air support needs and there are plans for a bridge over HWY 85 that will connect the 7th Special Forces Group to the air strip at Duke Field. Hurlburt Field airmen generally operate at night and it is a friendly sound when the C130’s fly over in the evening!
Hurlburt Field military personnel will have the luxury of several different communities to live in each with a different flare to it. Most affordable is Navarre, located about 15-30 minutes west of the Hurlburt Field main gate Navarre offers a wide variety of housing choices from older homes to new construction by local custom and production builders. Mary Esther and Ft. Walton Beach are east of Hurlburt Field and while the homes are generally older and more expensive Ft. Walton Beach is a hub if activity for airmen from both Hurlburt Field and Eglin AFB and should see more activity from the Army 7th Special Forces Group that is coming to the Duke Field area. Niceville is east and north of Fort Walton Beach and has a similar make up of homes to Ft. Walton. More and more families from Hurlburt Field are heading to the north part of the county and discovering Crestview and Baker; the drive time may be a little longer but it is a much more consistent drive time. Crestview and Baker are starting to see some new and exciting developments. Southern Living custom home builder member Randy Wise Homes has developments in both Crestview and Baker with homes from 1,300 sq. ft to over 2,500 sq. ft. In Crestview look for Heritage Manor and in Baker look for Mill Creek Farms. The Mill Creek Farms homes are semi-custom designs on roughly ½ acre + size lots, all homes are built to the most current energy efficiency standards “Earth Sense” and the quality is second to none. Either choice you make, Navarre in Santa Rosa County, Ft. Walton Beach or Niceville in Okaloosa County or Crestview and Baker in north Okaloosa County I am very familiar with the homes and neighborhoods and will appreciate the opportunity to earn your business.
