Eglin AFB Information

Eglin Air Force Base is the home of the United States Air Force 96th Air Base and is also headquarters for more than 45 associate units. Eglin is one of the largest Air Force bases in the world, covering 724 square miles of reservation and 97,963 square miles of water ranges in the Gulf of Mexico.  It is located 1 mile southwest of Valparaiso, Florida.   Eglin employs more than 8,500 military and approximately 4,500 civilians, with an additional 2,200 jobs due to move to Eglin under the 2005 BRAC.

The Eglin Air Force Base reservation lands offer access to tens of thousands of acres of pristine natural areas complete with hiking trails, fresh water fishing, sand bottom spring fed creeks to swim in, camping, hunting, berry picking and firewood cutting opportunities. If you are bored around here you have no one to blame but yourself!

Eglin Air Force Base is also home to Hurlburt Field and AFSOC, the home for Duke Field and the new home for the Army 7th Special Forces Group (7th SFG). The Army will be utilizing the Duke Field Air Strip for their air support needs and there are plans for a bridge over HWY 85 that will connect the 7th Special Forces Group to the air strip at Duke Field. Duke Field military personnel will have the luxury of several different communities to live in each with a different flare to it. Closest and most affordable is Crestview, located just minutes to the Duke Field entrance Crestview offers a wide variety of housing choices from older homes to new construction by local custom builders. Baker is just a little farther west than Crestview and Baker is starting to see some new development. Southern Living custom home builder member Randy Wise Homes has developments in both Crestview and Baker with homes from 1,300 sq. ft to over 2,500 sq. ft. In Crestview look for Heritage Manor and in Baker look for Mill Creek Farms. The Mill Creek Farms homes are semi-custom designs on roughly ˝ acre + size lots, all homes are built to the most current energy efficiency standards and the quality is second to none. Niceville and Ft. Walton Beach are located in the “south county” area; both have a broad range of homes to choose from with the homes in the south county being a bit more expensive and a bit older on average. If you want to be closer to the beaches this may be an option for you. Either choice you make, Crestview and Baker in the north county or Niceville and Ft. Walton Beach in the south county I am very familiar with the homes and neighborhoods and will appreciate the opportunity to earn your business.
